Our Story
Established in 2017.
Big’s Mayberry Tavern was founded in 2017 by John Maldonado, better known as “Big John.” The bar’s name was inspired by the neighborhood’s close-knit feel, reminiscent of the town of Mayberry from The Andy Griffith Show. The bar was created as a place for live music lovers and those who appreciate the feel of a casual, family-friendly dive bar. A strong supporter of the local community, we regularly hosts benefits and charity events, and show support for Lorena ISD. Over the years, John has made several improvements, adding a large outdoor stage, a covered patio, an outdoor dance floor, an additional outdoor bar, and a convenient outdoor serving window. Despite the challenges of the COVID shutdown, Big’s Mayberry Tavern persevered, continuing to grow and improve. The building has been a bar for generations, and with John Maldonado as the longest-running owner in its history, the tavern is still a local favorite, offering a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels like family.
